Building your bankroll

This article is going to help you build your bankroll with strategy. Following these tips should help you use poker as a side income.

Picking a Poker Site
The first thing you must do when looking to make some money playing online poker is pick your site. You must look at two different things to benefit from; the level of play at the site and the free money given to supplement your bankroll. After testing many online poker sites and networks over the past few years we created a list of poker rooms that are the best for creating a bankroll. You can find this list on the right side of the blog. Don't forget to use the special bonus code for Everest Poker that will double your bonus (EN200).

Figuring Out Your Limits
It is suggested that when picking a blind level to play at that you have 500x that amount of money in your bankroll. For example, if you want to play at the .05/.10 cent NL tables at Party Poker you should have 500 x 0.10 = $50. Therefore, by depositing $50 at Party Poker it would be best for you to start at the .05/.10 cent tables or lower. With the bonus $65 it would be ok to play at the .10/.25 cent tables.

A lot of people these days are depositing $50 online and sitting at .50/$1 tables. This will easily lead to the end of their bankrolls, as one bad beat will demolish it. Stick to the above paragraph when trying to figure out your limits.

Another important rule is to make sure you buy in at the table with sufficient amount of cash compared to the players at the table. For instance, you never want to buy in at the minimum amount allowed. You should aim more for the maximum buy-in as you will not get pushed around at the tables. Many players that see other players buy-in at the minimum will do one of two things; scare them out of the pot knowing they have little amount of money to bet, or push them all-in early causing bad beats or loss of committed money.

Picking The Type of Games To Play
When you sit down to play at a poker site you are within one click from playing many different types of poker. Along with most players online, I currently only play Texas Hold'em on a regular basis, although I do have fun sitting down at Omaha and 7 Card stud to win a few bucks. When choosing cash games there are three types to play; No Limit (in which you can bet as much of your cash in play at any time), Limit (in which you are regulated on how much you can bet or raise), or Pot Limit (which allows your max bet to be the amount of the pot). I find that Limit can be very profitable but I mostly sit down at No Limit tables. Either choice would be fine depending on your playing styles. Then there is the Sit-and-Go's and tournaments you can choose to play in. Big tournaments can be fun and have a big prize pool but are often very hard to win, try to limit playing these and focus on the Sit and Go tournaments. Sit and Go tournaments are with a smaller set amount of players, from 10 to 50 players starting at $3. These are good to play in and you should see a good profit from them once you get used to the play. When picking a tournament to play in choose a buy-in that is less than 5% of your bankroll. In conclusion, whether you're playing at Sit and Go's or No Limit cash games be patient, play smart and always follow our above guidelines on figuring out your limits!
